Farewell lunch in the cloister of the Faculty of Engineering (hosted by CIRPS)

San Pietro in Vincoli

In the morning, we will visit the wonderful basilic “San Pietro in Vincoli” that is said also Eudossiana as it came from the name of who wanted to reconstruct it, Eudossia, minor wife of the emperor Valentiniano III. According to the tradition the emperor received from the mother the chains that held Saint Peter prisoner to Gerusalemme in order to donate them to Leone Magno then. The chains as soon as they were touched fused and became one. In order to remember the miracle in the 442 B.C s’ they began the intense activities on the basilic. In 1475 it was modified under Sisto IV the facade with porch to five arched. (Baccio Pontelli or Meodel Caprino). The inside is divided in three navate separated from ten marble columns for side with capitello dorico and ionic base. In the transetto is placed the Mausoleo of Giulio II, [c.1513] realized from Michelangelo, author moreover of celebre the Mosè [c.1514] and of the statues of Lia and Rachele situated within the niches that later were completed from Raffaello from Montelupo. Then the CIRPS showes us its important activities and receives us in the Faculty of Engineering for a Farewell lunch.
